How tank installation works

A tank installation begins long before the vessel arrives. Paul Industries reviews the vessel drawings, foundation or platform loads, rigging path, and nozzle orientation so the tank lands in the right place, at the right elevation, with its inlets, outlets, and manways facing the equipment they connect to. On site, the vessel is offloaded, rigged, and set on its saddles, legs, or foundation — often through tight doorways, over existing equipment, or up through multiple floors — then leveled and anchored.

Once the tank is set, the mechanical work follows: mounting and aligning the agitator or mixer, connecting sanitary nozzles and tie-in spool pieces, tying the vessel into process and utility piping, and connecting the jacket to heating or cooling media where applicable. Because a process vessel has to be cleanable and drainable, we verify slope to the outlet, eliminate low points and dead legs at nozzles, and pressure- or leak-test the connections before insulation and cladding go on. The result is a vessel that is not just set in place but fully integrated into the process and ready to commission.

We do both. What is the difference between jacketed and single-wall tanks?
A single-wall tank has one shell and is used for storage or ambient-temperature mixing. A jacketed tank adds an outer jacket — typically dimple or half-pipe — around the shell so heating or cooling media can control the product temperature, which is essential for reactors, fermenters, and temperature-sensitive blends. Jacketed vessels require additional utility tie-ins and are usually insulated and clad; we install both.
Do you install agitators and mixers?
Yes. We mount and align top- and side-entry agitators and mixers — including sealed mixers on pressure-rated reactors — and connect their drive and seal utilities. Proper alignment and support are critical to seal life and vibration, so we set the mixer to the vessel and drawing specifications and verify it during commissioning.
Do you tie tanks into process piping?
Yes. We fabricate sanitary nozzle spools and tie-in spool pieces and connect the vessel into product, CIP, clean-steam, vent, and drain lines with orbital-welded, documented sanitary piping. We verify slope to the outlet, eliminate dead legs at the nozzles, and pressure- or leak-test the connections so the tank drains and cleans as intended.
Do you handle insulation and cladding?
Yes. For jacketed and temperature-controlled vessels we install insulation and metal cladding for thermal efficiency, personnel protection, and a hygienic, wipe-down exterior. Cladding is done after the jacket connections and testing are complete so the vessel is fully integrated before it is closed up.
